ENERGY - FOOD - Jobs - ENVIRONMENT

Green Era is developing a Urban Farm and Green Energy Campus in South Chicago. The project will be located on a vacant brownfield site in an area with urgent need for cleanup and economic development. Using anaerobic digestion, Green Era will recycle inedible food waste to produce clean, renewable energy and nutrient-rich soil, which will be used as a critically needed input in the expansion of fresh local food production. The end  result will have positive social and environmental impacts, while also creating jobs, sustainable neighborhoods and healthier lifestyles.

The Green Era model creates measurable economic benefits and profound social impact through the creation of jobs and economic development in underserved communities. Engaging Minority/Women-Owned Business entities and hiring from “hard to employ” populations, i.e., ex-offenders, long-term unemployed, people with disabilities, people lacking diplomas and/or specialized training is also a priority. This innovative model has the potential to attract nationwide attention and highlight Chicago’s commitment to sustainability and building a clean energy economy.
